It is easy for imagination to take flight in Cathleen Rountree's delightful writer's aerie.
--Eva Ciabattoni, Freelance writer

My writer's block has dissolved. My laptop is humming. I left Cathleen's retreat sure of myself and my ability to continue to write my novel in a coherent fashion. I had come from oblivion to competence. Worth twice the price!
--Susan Mueller, Freelance writer and Treasurer of CWC, South Bay Chapter

Are you looking for a way to bypass your internal censor and dive into writing? Are you willing to challenge yourself? Do you want to complete a substantial amount of writing in one day? This Writing Retreat Intensive will give you the boost you need and provide a series of simple exercises geared toward accessing creative flow, strengthening your writing abilities, and achieving your writing goals.

It offers an occasion to outline the structure of a novel or a nonfiction book; to choose between two or more writing projects; to complete an article or a series of poems; to break through writing blocks and procrastination; to revivify your relationship to your work.

During the Retreat silence is preserved and intentions are affirmed and held in a way that quiets the noisy, self-critical, fearful part of a writer's personality. I will act as a calming, inspiriting presence, who emboldens you to abandon your "page fright"and engage with your thoughts and words in a fresh way.

This is an affordable opportunity to work semi-privately with the Writer's Mentor, Cathleen Rountree, in her home. Group size is limited and each writer benefits from a private consultation with Cathleen to discuss their work or brainstorm ideas. Many writers find this format to be exceedingly productive and attend the Monthly One-Day Writing Retreat Intensive on a regular basis.

Testimonials:
It is easy for imagination to take flight in Cathleen Rountree's delightful writer's aerie. Rich surroundings engage the senses - fresh sea air pouring through open doors framing riots of flowers, walls of books rising to meet paintings, classical music, a still-life of snacks, communal and private spaces to suit any style. Cathleen herself to welcome, coax and cajole the muse. I had a great day.

Cathleen, Thank you for such a remarkable day of writing. I thought I might never write again, but your expertise, focus, patience, and discipline pushed me through to a new level in my writing. I came away with a novel completely outlined and nearly two chapters written! If this is what a day in a quiet, supportive environment can reap, I'll be back next month, and the month after that. Thanks, again.

I have taken 2 intensive creative writing weekends with Cathleen Rountree and I plan to take all that she has to offer. She provides a wonderful space (and pace) to feel inspired and get right down to the process of writing. She offers the guidance and focus to help clear any blocks and jump start the creative juices. I find her classes to be very balanced (ie., there is ample time for instruction, inspiration and writing) and Cathleen is a very generous, insightful and energetic teacher. At the end of the weekend I feel uplifted due to a sense of accomplishment, and I also come away with many tools for working on my own. These classes are the best! Thank you, Cathleen.

"Real Flowers"A few years ago I took a UC Santa Cruz Extension course from Cathleen Rountree. It was to learn to write profiles and I was a journalist. The course was so successful I landed a three year, once a week contract for profiles. Very lucrative. Now I am plunging into fiction, a novel. I have a story that I must tell and it is calling for Pepto Bismol! I was blocked. So I signed up for Cathleen Rountree's One Day Writing Retreat. This very well published woman might save me again. The group met in her amazing artist's carriage house. It is crowded with books, art and international artifacts and real flowers. She spent 15 minutes clearing our heads of all the junk that helps us to not write. Then we wrote for an hour. No potty breaks, no drinks, no looking in books, no writing of outlines. Just write. My writer's block had dissolved and I produced two pages that amazed me. We took a break and then did it again. I produced two more excellent pages. My laptop was humming. Then we each had a tutorial with her privately on the lovely flowering deck. She asked about my goals and offered some excellent advice. She encouraged me at every point. I went home sure of myself and my ability to continue to write this piece of fiction in a coherent fashion. I had come from oblivion to competence. Worth twice the price!

Writing a dissertation can be a very lonely process. I have spent nearly a year struggling with my topic. Cathleen's Writing Retreat has given me renewed energy and enthusiasm. I came away with a series of chapter headings and ideas buzzing around my head. Most importantly Cathleen helped me to get in contact with my topic in a much deeper way.
